Talk about being in the Right Place at the Right Time.

I was living and working in Berlin….GERMANY (!) in 1984 when this song was released.

I heard it first in German. On the radio. Loved the tune.

Told this story almost 5 years ago in a live chat. I also mentioned the Ku’Damm which we used to patrol as Military Police Officers in Berlin… amongst the whores and sex clubs. AND regularly visiting East Berlin via Checkpoint Charlie (which was also one of our regular duty jobs) and seeing so many Trabants and other Russian cars there.

I was laughed at and dismissed.

Even posting the words “99 Red Balloons” in 2019 got me ridiculed out of the chat.

Hey. True Story, love.

Connect the neunundneunzig luftballons with George Orwell and call me a LARP, NPC, Troll now you mfs.

BTW : You could bribe a Russian guard with 200 Benson & Hedges cigarettes in heartbeat. I got a proper furry Russian hat out of it :o)

I think of you, and let it go

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we’ve got
Set them free at the break of dawn
‘Til one by one, they were gone
Back at base, sparks in the software
Flash the message “Something’s out there”
Floating in the summer sky
99 red balloons go by

99 red balloons
Floating in the summer sky
Panic bells, it’s red alert
There’s something here from somewhere else
The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager eye
Focusing it on the sky
The 99 red balloons go by

99 Decision Street
99 ministers meet
To worry, worry, super scurry
Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we’ve waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The President is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by

99 knights of the air
Ride super high-tech jet fighters
Everyone’s a superhero
Everyone’s a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify and classify
Scrambling the summer sky
99 red balloons go by

As 99 red balloons go by

99 dreams I have had
In every one, a red balloon
It’s all over, and I’m standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a red balloon
I think of you, and let it go
