I have a 1991 paperback edition of Montaigne’s Essays – used for research into the mind of of the 16th/17th century person.
What this edition of mine completely lacks is any mention of the first translator of Montaigne into English and to whom he dedicated his works.
The translator was John Florio and he dedicated his work to two women…
Elizabeth Sidney Rutland and Penelope Devereux Rich.
