What is a TUP & What is a HOLME?

Going back to Godiva and Tupholme Abbey.

A TUP is a randy male sheep…a RAM.

A HOLME is a piece of land that often gets flooded by the local river.

Tupholme Abbey, or the ruins of – to this day – is by the River Witham and is grazed by sheep who escaped the regular floods. I’ve seen this with mine own eyes.

It’s a lovely spot on my doorstep.
