I’m still on that camel!
I rode one in the desert in Dubai and it was A M A Z I N G. They are funny and slightly frightening creatures…very long way from the ground up there!
Anyways : Henry I of England, youngest son of William the Bastard Conqueror, allegedly had a menagerie at Woodstock Palace.
All Animal rights activists HATE this kind of history. It always freaked me out knowing that horses and chickens and such like were put on ships for weeks and months at a time and few survived the voyage.
Aha. Then again – – – carts and hooves and paws and etc are perfectly logical ways for animals (camels and elephants and lions and dodos and dragons and velociraptors) to move across many thousands of miles. As long as they are cared for properly en route.
At the beginning of the *** 12th century *** Henry I of England is known to have kept a collection of animals at his palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, reportedly including lions, leopards, lynxes, camels, owls and a porcupine. … The menagerie was opened to the public during the reign of Elizabeth I in the 16th century.
I have read lots about Henry I’s menagerie but youtube isn’t playing with me today. Harruumph.
