Such a wonderful weekend about a 100 years ago on this day.
I travelled to Derby, where Marilyn lived, to celebrate BFF’s 18th birthday.
Marilyn was her gorgeous mother, kicked out of the home and denied access to her 3 children for a long time. This was my first meeting with Momma BFF.
White Jamaican and still Jammin’ with the vibe. Her and the father of BFF’s future Half Black Jamaican-Half White Brit-Half Sis, were spliffing on cushions in the corner of the room as us teenagers danced and drank and fell asleep wherever we fell.
Marilyn cooked fresh plantain bread the next morning for brunch. Telling us that this and the scalding hot cups of tea were the perfect hangover cure.
She was right :o)
