My Dad would have turned 80 years old on July 5th this year.
He served on the Belfast.
When I was about 18/19, Mum and I travelled by train with Iain as he went down to Lympstone, aged 17, to join the Royal Marines. Like our father had done aged 14/15.
We left him at King’s Cross Station as he boarded another train to Devon. Both of us crying.
We had a few hours until the train back to Lincolnshire left so we went on a mini-tour. Mum chose a visit to the Belfast in honour of her husband and first born son.
